The sporting phenomenom that is poker resembles a rocketship with a never-ending pipeline of jet fuel. One wonders if it will ever run out? Poker in the United States and around the world attracts endless attention, buoyed by unbelievable ratings on television.

The wait may be over.
Thanks to a pair of Calgarians who share a vision for the game that is unequaled across our nation, poker is quickly becoming a household game in our nation. Kelly Kellner and Dan Forigo, the powerbrokers of Heads Up Entertainment Inc., have been working overtime to take the Canadian version of poker to the highest level.
Kellner, the president and CEO of Heads Up pledges to "revolutionize tournament poker and create the ultimate experience in Canada." One of their television endeavors, The Canadian Open Poker Championship, begins airing this evening on Rogers Sportsnet.
Yet television is really just the tip of the iceberg. From poker excursions for high stakes on cruise ships to online and in-person tutorials, the multi-media monster wants to challenge the U.S. juggernaut that has put poker on a seemingly unstoppable pace.

Forigo, vice-president of corporate affairs, has indicated the intention to put on display some of the world's best players for Canadians to watch and bring the game to those who are dying to try. Heads Up is looking to go public, and don't be surprised in the next little while if the corporate world will be gobbling up its act; a sports business perspective that has not even been considered in our ountry.
The key is to be innovative and interesting while delivering a product that can make the Canadian-ization of poker something special.

Many may suggest that Kellner and Forigo are not playing with a full deck with their monster plans. However, the lucrative poker trade is on an astonishing roll and these Calgarians have no intention of folding an amazingly aggressive gameplan. The duo remain focused on a growing enterprise that translates into good business.
Rogers Sportsnet will broadcast the Canadian Open Poker championship starting Thursday night. Check your local TV sked for times in your region.
