A Look at Televisions High Stakes Poker
On television, there is one very popular show about poker entitled High Stakes Poker. The premise of the reality based television show is the coverage of ring games of Texas Holdem. There is no cap on the buy in when it comes to the competition, so players can invest as much money as they want to invest. However, there is a minimum of $100,000 that is required to buy in to the game. This means that in order to be considered as a contestant, the players need to pay to receive at least $100,000 in chips to be used for betting purposes during the ring games.
To date, there have been three seasons in production. The first season of High Stakes Poker aired in January of 2006, while season two of High Stakes Poker aired in June of the same year. Season three of the show was filmed in October of 2006 and will not be aired until January of 2007. The majority of the players featured on the television show are professional poker players and those who are very familiar and involved in high stakes poker. The television show is hosted by A.J. Benza and Gabe Kaplan, who host all three of the seasons. Many people enjoy and watch the show, whether they are directly involved in poker or not. Those who are involved in poker enjoy the different tactics and strategies that they may observe while watching the show.
Each season of High Stakes Poker is based on about 24 hours of footage that had been filmed from the ring games. These hours are then whittled down to about thirteen hours which are then aired on television. The poker players are paid for the number of hours that they are filmed. The television show has enjoyed moderate success as a television show.
