On the Road to Legalizing Poker in Texas
With the popularity of poker growing every year, poker players in Texas now have someone lobbying for them in Austin. Founder of the Texas Association of Poker Players, Wayne Long is serious about legalizing the sport of poker in the state of Texas and is doing something about it.

Long has met with and intends to retain legal representation with a top Austin law firm and is enlisting support for the January 2007 legislative session. The main goal of TAPP is to legalize the sport of poker. This would allow Texans to compete in special event tournaments, charity tournaments, play in poker rooms or clubs in public and play online internet poker, legally.

If poker players in Texas get on board and join the Association, poker will have the support needed to show Austin that this is a serious sport played by millions around the country and thousands of Texans -- who want to play legally. This effort will be difficult and will likely face strong opposition.

However, the TAPP and thousands of other players are very determined; they we will be a very strong voice. We believe that our position will be approved if Texas voters are given the opportunity to vote. They have already demonstrated the likely outcome by approving betting at horse and dog races in 1987 and Texas Lottery in 1992. The state of Texas has approved gambling and actually encourages and promotes gambling. We are in the majority, so let's act like it, and demand our right to play poker legally.
