Income taxes on winnings from Internet poker alone -- which is estimated to have attracted $60 billion in wagers worldwide in 2005 -- could amount to $2.5 billion each year, according to the study commissioned by the Poker Players Alliance, a group calling for the regulation of online gambling. "The majority of the revenue that's generated would be from reporting of poker winnings," said Michael Bolcerek, president of the group.

Playboy blends beautiful women with poker
Playboy's Alta Loma Entertainment announced that it has commissioned the Players Network to produce "Playboy's Women of Poker," a multi-part television series that will feature beautiful women competing to become members of Playboy's Poker Team and win all the perks that go along with it. Women interested in this unique opportunity should participate in one of five regional qualifying Texas Hold'em tournaments held throughout the United States at which time they will also do a test photo shoot.
A total of thirty beautiful women who have what it takes to model for Playboy will win a trip to Las Vegas to compete in the televised finals. The six women who accumulate the most points through their poker and modeling skills at the final event will become members of Playboy's Poker Team. As members of Playboy's Poker Team, the winners will make public appearances, play in charity tournaments and participate in other promotional events.
Pub owner gambles on poker
The owner of a fashionable London pub has bet his business on the argument that poker is a game of skill, not chance. Derek Kelly argues that poker should be considered a game of skill like chess or checkers instead of being classified with roulette and blackjack.

But he was recently charged with violations of the Gambling Act and is expected to go on trial early next year. If Kelly makes his case, that would allow pubs all over Britain to host poker tournaments and allowing playing on the premises. If he loses, he could get a jail term.
