Win ties Hellmuth with Brunson and Chan

Phil Hellmuth Jr. returned to an elite club early Wednesday, besting 1,690 players and tying poker legends Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan by winning his 10th World Series of Poker bracelet. Hellmuth's 10th bracelet brought him even with Brunson and Chan, who both won their 10th World Series events last year.

Brunson, 72, said he'd congratulate Hellmuth when he saw him. "I was pulling for him," said Brunson, widely regarded as the patriarch of modern day poker. "It creates more competition. And next year, it's going to be a shootout between him, me and Johnny".

Poker player will pit skills against the best

Marlboro resident Steve Gross could not legally step foot inside of a casino - but that did not stop him from becoming a world class poker player. Gross, a Rowan University student who just celebrated his 21st birthday and attained the legal age to gamble in a casino, will travel to the biggest tournament in the world - the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Texas Hold 'Em main event in Las Vegas, Nev.

The tournament will take place at the Rio Casino from July 28 through Aug. 10 and will be broadcast on ESPN. Even without casino table experience, Gross has refined his game to the point of attaining national recognition. An Internet site for poker aficionados, lists Gross' user alias as the 39th best on-line player in the world.

Winnipegger hopes to win big in world's largest poker tournament

A Winnipeg man hopes to win as much as $10 million at the World Series of Poker, after raking in more than $100,000 US at the tournament last year. Sean Daulat said he's heading for the world's largest poker tournament in Las Vegas, which starts Friday and lasts two weeks, and plans to beat his 2005 payoff.

Daulat, an air traffic controller at Winnipeg International Airport, claimed his spot in the 2006 edition of the world series by winning an online tournament that cost about $50 to enter. Since then, he has been practising in online poker rooms to bone up on his skills.
